Bridging the gap between industry-academia, key to unlocking advances in the pharma and cosmetic space: Shri J. Jayaseelan, IDMA Chairman

  • A two-day National Level Conference on Cosmetics and Cosmeceuticals aimed to explore the latest advancements and scope of research in the Cosmetic and Pharma industry.

Chennai : SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), SRM College of Pharmacy, in association with IDMA & IPA (TN Branch), organized a two-day National Level Conference on Cosmetics and Cosmeceuticals. More than 300 participants, including industry professionals, students, and researchers from academic institutions and the pharma industry, attended the conference, which aimed to explore the latest advancements in the field.

The conference provided a dynamic platform for exchanging ideas and presenting pioneering research. Dr. Ramesh Surianarayanan, Co-founder and Head of R&D at Foxtale Consumer Private Ltd., Mumbai; Dr. M. Vijayakumar, Assistant General Manager—R&D (Herbal Division) at Apex Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., Chennai; Mr. C. Narayanan, Vice President, Innovation and Development at Clarion Group of Companies, Chennai; and Mr. S. Muralikrishna, Manager—New Product Development at Linux Laboratories, Mumbai, addressed the attendees. These industry leaders shared their expertise on varied topics, including innovations in product development and cutting-edge research in cosmeceuticals.

Dr. V. Chitra, Dean, SRM College of Pharmacy, in her address, emphasized the significance of understanding the cosmetics and cosmeceuticals nexus. “The skin care industry is constantly changing, and the younger generation regularly encounters a variety of skincare and cosmetic options in the media space, particularly digital,” she said. We need to maintain a constant dialogue with the industry to help the youth understand the impact that products have on an individual’s health, beauty, and well-being.

 Lt. Col. (Dr) A. Ravi Kumar, Pro Vice-Chancellor of SRM Medical College and Research Centre, in his address underscored the importance of continued research and development to promote safe and sustainable practices within the industry.

Chief Guest, Shri. J. Jayaseelan, Chairman of the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA) South and Vice President of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) Tamil Nadu, stated, “Bridging the gap between pharmaceutics and cosmetics involves integrating knowledge and practices from both fields to enhance product development and efficacy. Continued research and knowledge sharing between industry and academia is the key to unlocking advances in the pharma and cosmetic space.”
