Brock University: Emergency Preparedness Week to Include Mass Notification System Test for Enhanced Safety Measures

Brock University will participate in Emergency Preparedness Week with communities and institutions across Canada from Sunday, May 5 to Saturday, May 11. This year, the focus of the annual national event is to encourage Canadians to understand and plan for emergencies that could impact areas where they live, work and study.

As part of Emergency Preparedness Week, Brock will conduct a full-scale test of the Mass Notification System on the evening of Sunday, May 5.

The system can notify the Brock community of emergency situations through all University network computer screens, electronic message boards, emails, voicemail extensions and social media platforms.

Brock is also reminding students, staff and faculty to take time to prepare for potential emergencies by:

• Understanding the risks related to their specific communities, such as potential flooding or weather-related events.
• Making plans in advance to ensure they can respond effectively to an emergency at home or at work.
• Preparing an emergency kit of basic supplies, including cash, that would allow them to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours during an emergency.

Members of the University community are also encouraged to download the Brock Safety App, which contains useful links and emergency contacts and is routinely used for sharing information, including advisories related to emergency situations.
