Brock University Renews Andrew Colgoni’s Role as Associate University Librarian

Andrew Colgoni has been reappointed as Associate University Librarian (AUL), Student Success for a five-year term beginning Sept. 1.

From navigating a reorganization, to adapting during the pandemic, the Brock University Library has experienced considerable change over the past five years.

Colgoni, who joined Brock in 2019, provides strategic leadership to the Library’s Teaching and Learning, and User Services and Engagement departments, as well as key support for spaces and facilities.

“Supporting student success is a pillar of the Library’s strategy and we need to constantly evolve to meet changing student needs,” says Colgoni. “We are continually evaluating and updating our spaces, services, and teaching and learning supports to ensure those needs are met.”

Reflecting on some of the successes and challenges of his first appointment, Colgoni played a key role in the phased resumption of on-campus library services following the COVID-19 pandemic.

One area that needed revitalization upon the return to campus was the Matheson Learning Commons, a welcoming environment where students can work collaboratively, exchange ideas and find support.

“We wanted to ensure the Learning Commons was a lively, engaging place that also supported the co-curricular needs of our campus partners,” he says.

To maximize space use and ensure seamless learning opportunities for the Brock community, Colgoni engaged with existing campus partners and onboarded new ones, including Brock International, Student Accessibility Services and the Black Student Success Centre.

“It is the responsibility of the Library’s senior leadership team to ensure the Library is relevant and well-positioned to respond to the needs of students, faculty, staff and the broader community,” says Brock University Librarian Nicole Nolan. “Andrew brings sincerity, thoughtfulness and attentiveness to this role. I’m thrilled to have him continue in this leadership position for another term.”

In the next five years, Colgoni aims to build on the Library’s strategic plan and the University’s academic plan. Key areas of focus include integrating research skills into program curricula, supporting open education and maximizing course material affordability.
