Brock University Set to Launch Research Impact Learning Network in New Space
A new initiative designed to amplify Brock research and scholarship officially launches next week — in a space created for a similar purpose.
The Brock Research Impact Learning Network is holding its inaugural event on Monday, Dec. 11 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in RFP 216. The event is free and open to Brock faculty, students and staff. Those interested in attending are asked to register in advance.
During the event, a panel of three Brock faculty will share their experiences with research impact along with insights on advancing impact-oriented work, including integrating strategies into research and funding applications.
The panel consists of Professor of Kinesiology Stephen Cheung, Associate Professor of Child and Youth Studies and Canada Research Chair Matthew Kwan, and Associate Professor of History Elizabeth Vlossak.
“All researchers aim to make a meaningful difference through their work, and those differences take many forms, like contributing to experts’ understanding within a discipline, creating new technology, devices or cultural artifacts, solving specific problems for research partners, or driving policy, social, or organizational changes,” says Vice-President, Research Tim Kenyon.
“Brock’s Research Enterprise is committed to helping researchers ensure that their work makes the biggest difference it can,” he says.
Brock has also recently created a Research Impact Hub to help boost the University’s research presence.
Located in RFP 216 near the Rankin Family Pavilion welcome desk, the Research Impact Hub can be used by the Brock research community as a workspace to collaborate and advance ideas, host events, develop capacity and see displays showcasing research programs.
“Funding agencies such as those associated with the Tri-Council want to see transdisciplinary teams working on a specific project. This hub seeks to develop and nurture those collaborations through having the space available to the community and hosting events such as the Brock Research Impact Learning Network panel,” says Knowledge Mobilization Officer Jayne Morrish, who heads up the Research Impact Hub within the Office of Research Services (ORS).
Morrish says the ORS is pleased with how the hub has come together.
“A variety of departments contributed their skills, materials and expertise to make this a welcoming and productive space,” she says.
