The BDS Green Office Park southwest of Jakarta will be home to the Monash Indonesia campus.

Chancellor (Southeast Asia Partnerships) Professor Andrew MacIntyre said: “The lease signing allows us to forge ahead with designing a purpose-built campus in a burgeoning, modern and sustainable city centre.

“The BSD City location was selected as it best represents Monash’s own goals – to be connected to industry, in close proximity to innovative companies and other Indonesian universities, highly environmentally sustainable, and create a real precinct of work, recreation and lifestyle around the campus,” Professor MacIntyre said.

The campus at Green Office Park 9 (GoP9) will be state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly and digitally-advanced, housing the most innovative digital library in the country.

Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC said the decision to base the campus in Jakarta was about the importance of being at the economic heart of the region.

“This campus will be working closely with industry in Indonesia – it was essential that Monash Indonesia was located in the hub of industry to ensure our students had access to employers, employment opportunities and industry leaders,” Professor Gardner said.

The Indonesia campus will offer master and PhD degrees, as well as executive programs and micro-credentials.

The Group CEO of Sinar Mas Land, Michael Widjaja, said: “Sinar Mas Land proudly welcomes Monash University in BSD City, which is known as a home for the most prominent education. We are truly honoured that Monash University will further enrich our ecosystem as the first ever foreign university that operates in Indonesia. We support Monash’s establishment here to expand its global footprint while allowing Indonesians to access world-class education.”

The lease-signing announcement closely follows the University being granted official legal status and a licence to operate by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. The next phase will be to work on the design of the campus, and staff recruitment.  The first program offering is set to begin in October 2021.
