Burhani College Strengthens its Academic Leadership Team

MUMBAI: Burhani College, the Dawoodi Bohra community’s premier higher education institute
in Mumbai, today announced the appointment of Dr Talib Yusuf and Dr Huzefa Bhagat as
Deans-Academic Affairs to strengthen its academic leadership team.
Dr Talib brings over 13 years of experience in academia and administration, having been
responsible for setting up and growing a department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. He is
passionate about education and research and has authored, published and presented over 30
papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and conferences. His areas of research include
Human Genetics, Gene Expression, Proteomics and Genomics. His recently published research
paper is in COVID-19 and its effects on human health in European Journal.
Dr Bhagat is an enthusiastic educator with over seven years of academic, administrative and
research experience as the head of the department of the BAF program at Narsee Monjee College
of Commerce & Economics. He cares deeply about helping students learn and succeed in the
ways that work best for them, both inside and outside the classroom while maintaining high
standards of writing and research. He has published research papers in national and international
journals in the areas of consumer behaviour and finance and has also authored a book on direct
taxation. His belief in innovation led him to create a one-of-a-kind youth summit called ‘Global
Youth Economic Summit’ for his students at his earlier college. Being an entrepreneurial heart,
he has also collaborated with his students to incept startups, where he mentors them and
facilitates their growth.

While Dr Talib will guide and lead the College in establishing a Science & Research program, Dr
Bhagat will lead in shaping new academic collaborations and enriching the overall academic
environment of the College.” Nooruddin added.
Burhani College completed 50 years during the pandemic. Keeping the safety of its faculty and
students at the heart of its programs, the College was one of the first to introduce online
learning, even before the University mandated it for all colleges. As part of its Golden Jubilee
celebrations, Burhani College also entered into a collaboration with Harvard Business School
(HBS) Online to offer its well-recognized courses to students and alumni of the College.
Burhani College was founded in 1970 by His Holiness Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, the
52nd al-Dai al-Mutlaq and head of the Dawoodi Bohra Community, with a clear vision to provide
“Knowledge for All” and emphasize the Community’s age-old tradition of education, learning and
entrepreneurship; Today, Burhani College is guided by the vision of his son & successor, the
53rd Dai al-Mutlaq, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, who is the current Chancellor of
Aligarh Muslim University, following in the footsteps of his revered father His Holiness Dr.
Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin and grandfather His Holiness Dr. Syedna Taher Saifuddin,
both of whom also occupied this position
Led by almost 100 permanent and visiting faculty members, the College offers its more than
2000 strong student community degree programs in Bachelor of Management Science,
Bachelor of Mass Media and Communication, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts and
Master of Commerce. Besides offering a wide range of HBS Online courses to shape leaders
and entrepreneurs for tomorrow, it also provides curated certificate courses in Sciences of the
Home to impart life skills to the modern homemaker.
Burhani College is also a designated local chapter of SWAYAM-NPTEL. NPTEL is the National
Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning which is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes
of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and
Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents in engineering and science, an
initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India.
