Canada: Competition Bureau to host The Competition and Growth Summit in June
Summit will explore the role of competition in fostering economic growth post-pandemic
March 15, 2021 – GATINEAU, QC – Competition Bureau
From June 1 to June 3, 2021, the Competition Bureau will host The Competition and Growth Summit, where experts will discuss the role of competition to drive economic growth in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Summit will bring together participants from international competition authorities and federal regulators, as well as from the business, legal and academic communities. Each panel will give participants the opportunity to explore tools and strategies available to governments and competition agencies as their countries are engaged on the path to economic recovery.
Panel 1 – Competition, productivity and economic growth
- The kickoff panel will discuss the role of competition in delivering economic recovery and inclusive growth in the wake of a global health crisis that has disproportionately affected small and medium businesses and vulnerable communities, as well as threatened the future competitive intensity and dynamism of markets.
Panel 2 – Competition and government agendas
- As policymakers balance multiple goals in the design and implementation of effective policy for economic recovery, this panel will consider how governments can incorporate a competition lens in policymaking alongside other critical objectives.
Panel 3 – The perspective from heads of competition agencies
- This panel will focus on the effect of the pandemic on the role of competition authorities around the world, providing international authorities an opportunity to reflect on their experiences in the pandemic, and discuss the current tools at their disposal to protect and promote competitive markets.
A program for the Summit is available on the Competition Bureau website.
