CAP-ESD programme kick-started in Lesotho

The Capacity Building Programme for Teacher Educators on Education for Sustainable Development (CAP-ESD) kick-started in Lesotho with a national workshop from 3-4 March 2020 in Maseru.

The programme will strengthen implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in teacher education institutions for teacher educators from Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), primary, secondary and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The national workshop introduced the CAP-ESD programme in Lesotho, which is one of the targeted countries for 2020.

Participants identified change projects which promote hands on learning and the development of sustainable learning environments. Initial ideas for change projects include a campaign to abolish polystyrene foam packs at Lesotho College of Education (LCE) and countrywide, which represent a danger to health and the environment as well as a commitment to integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the curriculum of the University of Lesotho.

The Principal Secretary of Lesotho Ministry of Education and Training, Dr. Thabiso Lebese, welcomed the involvement of Lesotho in the UNESCO ESD programme as a capacity building opportunity for teacher educators, who form the core of human capital.
