Capacity building programme concluded at JNMC
Aligarh: The three-day, capacity building and orientation programme on ‘Women Empowerment- Mahila-Sashaktikaran’ held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) concluded with experts discussing gender equality, social reforms to empower women, female representation in different professions and violence against women among other issues.
Prof Roomana N Siddiqui (Chairperson, Dept Psychology and Presiding Officer, Internal Complaint Committee) spoke on ‘Zero Tolerance Policy towards Sexual Harassment of Women’; while Dr Faiza Abbasi (HRD Centre) delivered her address during an interactive session on ‘How to Resolve the Challenges faced by a Working Women.’
Prof Sangeeta Singhal (Coordinator of the programme) gave the welcome address. Prof Sangeeta with Ms Adila Sultana (Assistant Administrative Officer, JNMC and Co-cordinator of the Programme) also delivered a presentation on ‘Women’s Empowerment-Equipping and Allowing Women to Make Life Determining Decisions’.
The programme also had special demonstration of Karate and Taekwondo techniques for self-defence by Sameera Iftikhar, Zainab Iftikhar, M Ahmad, Sharoz and Faheem under the guidance of Asrar Ahmad of Aligarh Martial Art Academy. Short films on women empowerment were also screened on the final day of the programme.
