Cardiff University: Cardiff graduates among the UK’s most employable
Published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), the survey shows that 84 percent of Cardiff graduates that were working in the UK were in highly skilled employment – ranking first in Wales for this measure and 18th (out of 130) in the sector.
96 percent of Cardiff’s graduates were in employment and/or further study, due to start a new job or course, or doing other activities such as travelling. Cardiff graduates also have the lowest rate of unemployment for any Welsh University.
Claire Morgan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Education and Student Experience said: “We pride ourselves on preparing our students for the world of work.
“Through our curriculum design and delivery, placements, excellent links with employers and enterprise and entrepreneurship support, we work hard to give our students the skills they need for whatever path they choose once they graduate.”
The Graduate Outcomes survey is the biggest annual social survey in the UK. More than 750,000 graduates are invited to take part each year.
It provides an insight into the jobs that graduates go on to take after university and is one of the measures that can show whether their degree has helped them to secure highly skilled employment.
Questions relate to employment, further study, graduate perspectives and well-being. Graduates are asked what they were doing in a particular week, called a census week, 15 months after they completed their course.
Recently, the University was also placed top in Wales for the metrics Graduate Outcomes – prospects (the success in employability or further study of graduates completing their first degree) and Graduate Outcomes – on track (the proportion of graduates who agree that their activity is on track with their future plans) in the Complete University Guide 2023, which was published earlier this month.
