Cardiff University experts, students take the institution to the Urdd Eisteddfod

Young people will find out about the latest research and student experiences from Cardiff University at this year’s Urdd Eisteddfod.

Academics and undergraduates will once again be present at the annual Welsh-language youth festival, which is taking place in Llandovery, Carmarthenshire next week.

The Cardiff University tent will hold a series of engagement activities covering a range of topics – including the benefits of blue green algae, the latest techniques used by astronomers and insights into the Merched Beca riots.

There will also be a chance to learn about what it’s like to be a student at Cardiff University – with hands-on activities for skills in journalism and the science behind a career in healthcare.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Gospel Choir will also be singing in the Cardiff University tent, giving the audience a unique opportunity to hear a selection of gospel songs sung in Welsh.

This year, students from Cardiff University were involved in the Urdd’s Message of Peace, focusing on anti-racism.

The festival’s Crowning Ceremony is also being sponsored by Cardiff University.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Damian Walford Davies said: “As well as demonstrating our support for the Urdd’s annual showcase of Welsh language culture and young Welsh talent, we hope our events will inspire young people to think about the huge range of opportunities on offer at Cardiff University, where they can develop their interests and skills in exciting new directions.”
