Cardiff University welcomes strategic partnership with University of Wyoming
Joint ventures in research and education will be developed between Cardiff University and the University of Wyoming in the US as part of a new strategic partnership.
Collaborative research projects, an annual series of seminars, conferences and workshops, staff and PhD student visits and collaborative education programmes are all planned as part of the five-year partnership, which was signed at an event in Cardiff University’s School of Music.
The agreement with Wyoming is Cardiff’s first partnership with a US higher education institution and follows similar arrangements with universities in China, Brazil, Germany, Belgium, Africa and, most recently, New Zealand, as part of its overarching The Way Forward strategy.
Professor Colin Riordan, Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff University, said: “Underpinning all our international partnerships is the ambition to address issues of international importance while simultaneously delivering benefits to society and our economy here in Wales.
“Our partnership with Wyoming is our latest commitment to this civic mission and so I look forward to seeing the benefits unfold as our university communities coalesce over the coming years.”
This is also our first formal partnership with a university in the US. As a favourite destination for our students who decide to embark on periods of international exchange during their studies, Wyoming represents an exciting addition to our suite of global opportunities.

The University of Wyoming was founded in 1886 and is a nationally recognised land-grant research institution with expert faculty, top-ranked academics and world-class facilities.
It has 12,000 students hailing from all 50 US states and 82 countries worldwide.
Ed Seidel, President of the University of Wyoming, said: “This strategic partnership marks a substantial commitment to fostering meaningful collaborations across the disciplines.”
We envision projects that expand the scope and impact of our research, that create new opportunities for student and faculty exchange, and that will generate connections between Wales and Wyoming that will benefit both our universities and our broader communities.
