Ansys Hall earned an award in the new construction category, and Fifth & Clyde was recognized for excellence in interior craftsmanship.
The event, hosted by the Master Builders’ Association of Western Pennsylvania, drew more than 1,000 attendees from the region’s top construction companies, architects and craftspeople.
Ansys Hall is named for Ansys, Inc., the global simulation software company that made the lead gift in 2016 to support its construction. The four-story, 36,000-square-foot mixed-use building incorporates a maker assembly space with access to the outdoor Maker Courtyard, student collaboration space, classrooms and offices. Ansys Hall has achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification for its energy efficiency and sustainability. Architectural firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and construction manager Mosites Construction & Development Company partnered with CMU’s Campus Design and Facility Development department on the building’s design and construction.
Fifth & Clyde Residence Hall and Neighborhood Commons is a dormitory at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Clyde Street that houses more than 260 students. Each floor has student-requested features, including laundry rooms, a kitchen, lounges and study rooms. The building design maximizes natural lighting, and both student life and the environment were a priority in the design. Energy-efficient options were also prioritized, with the project achieving LEED Gold certification. The design and construction team that worked with Campus Design and Facility Development on Fifth & Clyde includes architectural firms LTL Architects and Perfido Weiskopf Wagstaff + Goettel, as well as construction manager Rycon Construction Inc.
