Central University of Kerala Hosts Workshop on International Whale Shark Day

Kasaragod: On the occasion of International Whale Shark Day, the Central University of Kerala hosted a specialized workshop to raise awareness about the conservation of whale sharks and marine biodiversity. The event was conducted under the auspices of the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Department of Environmental Science, in collaboration with the Social Forestry Division, Kasaragod, Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department.

Inaugurating the event, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (i/c), Prof. Vincent Mathew, emphasized the need for a societal commitment to nature conservation. He highlighted that while enforcement of laws is crucial, widespread awareness and community responsibility are equally important in protecting both nature and its inhabitants. Smt. Shajna Kareem, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Social Forestry Division, Kasaragod, presided over the event.

Dr. M. Muralidharan Nambiar, Registrar; Dr. Sudisha Jogaiah, Head, Department of Environmental Science; Smt. Preetha P.V., Assistant Director of Fisheries, Kasaragod; Sri. Solaman T. George, Range Forest Officer; Sri. K. Girish, Range Forest Officer; Sri. Rajeevan K, Sub Inspector of Police; Sri. N.V. Sathyan, Deputy Range Forest Officer; and Smt. Yeshoda P.C, Section Forest Officer addressed the gathering. The sessions were led by experts Sri. A. Bharat Kumar and P. Prabhakaran. NSS Program Coordinator Dr. S. Anbazhagi welcomed the attendees and Dr. C.A. Geeta, Programme Officer proposed vote of thanks.
