Central University of Kerala organized an invited lecture on ‘National Security Strategy’

Thiruvananthapuram: A comprehensive understanding of global politics is crucial for any nation when framing its national security strategy, stated Lt. General Cherish Mathson, PVSM, SM, VSM, the former General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South-Western Command. He highlighted that a nation’s security strategy is built upon its core national values and interests, including territorial integrity and sovereignty. Lt. General Mathson made these remarks during a special lecture on “National Security Strategy” at the Capital Centre of the Central University of Kerala.

In his address, Lt. General Mathson defined security as “freedom from threat” and described strategy as “the art of choice.” He explained that a national security strategy is essentially the art of deploying national resources, including the armed forces, to safeguard a nation’s interests. He also underscored the importance of having a documented national security strategy, noting that such a document not only clarifies the responsibilities of various agencies involved in national security but also facilitates long-term planning, optimal resource utilization, and transparency in a democratic nation.

Prof. Suresh Rangarajan, Director, Centre for Defence and Security Studies at the Central University of Kerala inaugurated the special lecture series. Dr. Sivakumar, Director, Capital Centre welcomed the attendees and Ms. Hridya proposed vote of thanks.
