Central University of Odisha mourns the death of former President Pranab Mukherjee
Koraput: Central University of Odisha (CUO) deeply mourned the untimely death of former President Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the elder statesman of India and Bharat Ratna who served the Nation for decades. As a mark of respect, two minutes silence was observed and the National Flag was flown at half-mast in the University campus.
Prof. I. Ramabrahmam, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Asit Kumar Das, Registrar; Prof. P. Durgaprasad, Visiting Professor; senior administrators and faculty and non-teaching staff paid floral tributes.
Shri Pranab Kumar Mukherjee born on 11 December 1935, was an Indian politician who served as the 13th President of India from 2012 until 2017. In his political career spanning over five decades, Mukherjee was a senior leader in the Indian National Congress and held several ministerial portfolios in the Government of India. Prior to his election as President, Mukherjee was Union Finance Minister from 2009 to 2012.
He visited the Central University of Odisha in the month of July, 2011 to address the first Convocation of the University. He also delivered the Foundation Day Lecture in the capacity of President of India in 30 August 2013 through Video Conference. As the then Visitor of the University, he helped the University in several different ways. The University conveyed its condolences to his family members and recalled the Mantra of the late President “to be proactive, innovative & responsive to deal with new challenges”.
