Central University of Punjab commenced two-day 9th CUPB Annual Sports Meet

 

Bathinda, February 24: Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari commenced the 9th Annual Sports Meet on Wednesday at CUPB Ghudda Campus. This programme is being organized as a part of various activities to be conducted under eight-day celebrations to mark the 12th Foundation Day of the university. Along with major sports & athletics gaming events, the special highlight of this Mega Sporting Event is Indigenous Games of Punjab such as Pithu Garam, Kabaddi, Kokla Chapaki, Rassa Kassi, Stapoo, Gilli Danda, Gitta etc.

The chief guest of the Inaugural Session was Shri Sumit Kumar, Prant Pramukh, Kreeda Bharati. Smt. Seema Rani Goyal, Sarpanch, Village Ghudda, Dr. Jaspal Singh Brar, Principal, University College, Village Ghudda, Dr. Amarbir Kaur, Principal, Government Sports School, Village Ghudda attended the event as special guests..

The opening ceremony began with the hoisting of University Flag by honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. After unfurling the CUPB Flag, Vice Chancellor along with the chief guest declared the Opening of the 9th Annual Sports Meet by lightning the Mashaal (torch), and by releasing the colorful balloons in the air.

In his presidential address, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice Chancellor, mentioned that the Indigenous Games of Punjab are the special feature of this sports meet. He emphasized that we should promote our traditional games as they play important role in the physical as well as mental development of a person. He shared his vision to make this CUPB as the Mega Sports Centre of Punjab and encouraged students to carry forward the sports legacy of their respective states.

Shri Kanwal Pal Singh Mundra, the Registrar, expressed his gratitude towards the Vice Chancellor for promoting the traditional games of Punjab, which are beneficial for overall development but losing their popularity among the young generation. Prof. Vinod Kumar Garg, Dean Student Welfare, motivated students to participate in all sports events with true spirit.

As a part of this Sports Meet, a Kite Flying Competition was organized to mark Basant Festival. Along with Indigenous Games of Punjab, various sporting events like Discuss throw, Long Jump, Shot Put Volleyball, Cricket, 100 Meter Race & 50 Meter Race were held on the first day, in which students, faculty & staff members enthusiastically took part & displayed their sporting spirit. This two-day sports & athletics meet will conclude on 25th February.
