Central University of Punjab launched Counselling Cell

 

 

Bathinda : The Department of Psychology, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, inaugurated the Counselling Cell in the Health Center of the university on the 1st of August 2022 at 3 p.m. The special guest of this program was Dr. Sulakshan Kumar Tiwari, MD Psychiatry, Tewari Psychiatric Clinic, Bathinda.

In his welcome address, Dr. Jeyavel Sundaramoorthy, HoD, Department of Psychology, highlighted the need for counselling to enhance the mental health of students and staff members. He informed that CUPB Counselling Cell would provide counselling services for students and the faculty members with the goal to facilitate positive behaviour changes, improving the student’s ability to establish and maintain relationships socially, promoting their decision-making process, helping the student to understand their own potential and cope effectively with the problems they face.

On this occasion, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. R.P. Tiwari inaugurated the ‘Counselling Cell’. He stated that the university has established a Counselling Cell to help students overcome mental health challenges /obstacles, reduce their stress and nurture a healthy environment for growth and success. This facility will also encourage the students to understand themselves and the issues that trouble them and guide them to resolve their problems.

 

In his speech, Dr. Sulakshan Kumar Tiwari enlightened about the importance of mental health in human development and the role of counselor in promoting and enhancing the mental health and wellbeing. He highlighted that the facility of Counselling Cell at university would not only help youngsters to combat stress in journey to accomplish academic goals, career goals and personality development but would also help them in enhancing listening skills, empathy and interpersonal skills to have healthy relationships and a healthy lifestyle.

 

The counselling cell will provide counselling services for students and faculty members. Dr. Sajad Ahmed Najar, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology has explained the process involved in accessing the counselling services at the Counselling Cell. Finally, the event was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Rebeka Debbarma, faculty, Department of Psychology, CUPB.
