Central University of Punjab organised a Webinar on “Pharma: A Nobel Profession, Options & Opportunities’
Bathinda: Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) organized a Webinar on “Pharma: A Nobel Profession, Options & Opportunities”. Dept. of Pharmacology and Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Natural Products at CUPB conducted this programme under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. The keynote speaker of this programme was a renowned scientist Prof. S.P. Vyas, Professor (Retd.), Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. Hari Singh Gaur Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar.
At the start Prof. Raj Kumar, Dean, School of Health Sciences & HoD, Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Natural Products, welcomed the guests and shared the webinar theme. While introducing the keynote speaker to the participants, Dr. Puneet Kumar, HoD, Dept. of Pharmacology mentioned that Prof. S.P. Vyas is a pioneer scientist in the field of nano-biotechnology & immunology and has 39 years of teaching & research experience.
Keynote Speaker Prof. S.P. Vyas in his lecture shared the journey of ‘Pharmacy Education’ in India which commenced with the inception of Pharmacy College by Portuguese at Goa in 1842. He defined Pharmacist as a person who works for mankind, who is the guardian of public health, who is specialized in medicines, who is a companion of the physician, and who acts as a counsellor to the patient. He enlightened the students with the different opportunities available to Pharmacy Professionals in India and abroad in the areas of Academics, Pharmacy Research, Drug Development, Production, Quality Assurance & Quality Control, Packaging, Regulatory Affairs, Sales & Marketing, and Pharmacy at practice settings. He also put a light on the various specialized branches of Pharma discipline such as Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance etc, which have bright career prospects. While discussing the recent new development and trends in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof Vyas said that in the near future innovative techniques such as Artificial Intelligence, Nanomedicine & Nanotechnology, Stimuli Responsive Drug Delivery System, and Targeted Protein Degraders will play an important role in the diagnosis of disease, drug discovery, drug development and creation of specialized drugs. He encouraged young researchers to design advanced drug discovery systems for better therapeutic effects through innovative research in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari expressed his gratitude towards the keynote speaker for sharing a detailed account of the opportunities available in the Pharma Sector. He asserted that this profession has played a vital role in the sustenance of human civilization as it deals with tackling human health issues through improvised medicines. He urged Pharma Scientists to develop innovative solutions for new types of diseases that are emerging due to changing lifestyle. Prof. P. Ramarao, Professor, Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Natural Products encouraged students with his words of wisdom. Towards the end, Prof. R.K. Wusirika, Dean Incharge Academics, delivered the formal vote of thanks. The programme was attended by CUPB faculty, research scholars, and students of the university
