Central University of Punjab organized a Webinar on ‘Awareness and Prevention of the Female Cancer’

 

Bathinda : The Dept. of Zoology at the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari organized an interactive session on the topic ‘Awareness and Prevention of Female Cancer’. The keynote speaker of this programme was Dr. Manjit Kaur Rana from AIIMS, Bathinda.

While addressing the participants Dr. Manjit Kaur Rana mentioned that Cancer is a disease in which some of the body’s cells grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts of the body. She stated that several clinical terms used for various types of cancer are Carcinoma, Sarcoma, Leukemia, and Lymphoma & Myeloma. She mentioned that if we detect cancer at the early stage, the survival chances of patients increase many folds. She highlighted that breast and cervical cancer are the common types of female cancers which can be easily detected at the early stages if regular screening practice is followed. Dr. Manjit Kaur Rana educated the participants on how they can do the self-examination of the breast to monitor any changes in its size, shape, and presence of lumps in the breast. She also discussed the causes of cervical cancer and underlined the importance of timely screening and vaccination to prevent cervical cancer. She recommended that all women ages twenty-nine or above should have regular clinical examinations every two years, and women above forty years should go for mammograms, Pap & HPV Tests every three to five years. In this way, with self-examination, doctor’s advice, and regular screening, cancer can be detected at an early stage.

At the start, Dr. Aklank Jain, HoD, Dept. of Zoology, welcomed the participants and introduced the keynote speaker. Following this, Dr. Aarti introduced the programme theme. Towards the end, Ms. Shweta Arora, Deputy Registrar gave formal vote of thanks.
