Central University of Punjab organized a Webinar on Development of Pearl Millet Value Chain for Processing and Product Development in Arid Region

Bathinda: The Department of Applied Agriculture, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda under the patronage of Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari organized a webinar on ‘Development of Pearl Millet Value Chain for Processing and Product Development in Arid Region’. The invited speaker of this programme was Dr. Soma Srivastava, Senior Scientist (FSN), Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI)-ICAR, Jodhpur (Rajasthan).

 

In her address Dr. Soma Srivastava talked about the composition, consumption pattern, production, and nutritional benefits of pearl millet. She shared information regarding pearl millet processing and new product development (Flakes, Biscuit, Chocolate, extruded product, pasta, puff) already developed by CAZRI with the participants. She also discussed innovative approaches to overcome the rancidity of pearl millet with newer methods of processing.

 

At the start of the programme, Dr. Yashi Srivastava, Programme Coordinator, introduced the programme theme. This was followed by the welcome address and introduction of the keynote speaker by Prof. Anjana Munshi, HoD (Department of Applied Agriculture) & Dean Research, CUPB. The programme concluded with the formal vote of thanks by Dr. Surjeet Singh Dhaka. Faculty, scholars and students from different departments of the university as well as other educational institutions attended this programme.
