Central University of Punjab organized Webinar on Disaster Management Plan

Bathinda: The Department of Geography, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda in collaboration with National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), New Delhi organized a Webinar on Disaster Management Plan (DMP). The Webinar was conducted under the patronage of Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari (Vice Chancellor, CUPB) and Maj. Gen. M.K. Bindal (Executive Director, NIDM, Delhi). Its objective was to highlight the importance of Disaster Management Plan (DMP) and the role of DMP before the disaster, during the disaster and after the disaster. The invited speakers of this programme were Shri. Shekher Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor, NIDM, New Delhi and Shri, Arun Verma, Young Professional from NIDM, New Delhi.

The first lecture of this programme was delivered by Shri, Arun Verma on ‘Disaster Management Concepts & Vulnerability profile of India including Covid 19 status’. In his presentation, he highlighted the COVID related disaster and discussed basic concepts of disaster management, types of disasters, highlighted the different phases of disaster management and explained many disasters related terminology with nicely pictorial examples. The second presentation was delivered by Shri. Shekher Chaturvedi on ‘Institutional framework of disaster management and Need of Disaster Management Plan, its formulation and various techniques such as HVCA technique used to develop Disaster Management Plan’. In his presentation he highlighted the genesis of many institutional and policy/groups related to disaster management across the globe and also highlighted the institutional set up of disaster management in our country and the role of central, state, district administration includes the NDMA, NDRF, NIDM and DM Act 2005 in disaster management. The lecture sessions were followed by Question-Answer Session.

The programme started with welcome address by Prof. V.K. Garg, Dean Student Welfare and senior professor of the school. Dr. Pritam Chand introduced the programme theme and moderated during the programme. Towards the end, Dr. L.T. Sasang Guite, In-charge, Department of Geography gave formal vote of thanks.

The webinar was conducted through online mode. Faculty, research scholars and students from different departments of CUPB & other educational institutions participated in this workshop.
