Central University of Punjab organized Webinar on ‘Taking CUPB from Central to Global University’
Bathinda: The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) organized a Webinar on “Taking CUPB from Central to Global University” under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. The keynote speaker of this programme was Padamshree Dr. Prahlada Ramarao, Pro-Chancellor & Director, Centre for Energy Research, S-Vyasa Yoga University, Bengaluru, Karnataka.
The programme commenced with the welcome address by Prof. S.K. Bawa, Advisor, CUPB IIC, where she put a light on the webinar topic. While introducing keynote speaker, Prof. R.K. Wusirika, Dean Incharge Academics, mentioned that Padamshri Dr. Prahlada is an Indian Missile Scientist who is known for his contributions to Indian Space Programme. He added, Dr. Prahlada Ramarao is the fellow of many prestigious organisations and has worked as former Vice Chancellor of Defence Institute of Advanced Technology and former Director of DRDO’s Defence Research & Development Laboratory.
Keynote Speaker Dr. Prahlada Ramarao started his talk by mentioning that World-Class Universities produce future leaders, entrepreneurs & innovators who are responsible for social transformation & development. He highlighted that any university which is equipped with state-of-the-art high-tech infrastructure, talented faculty and high-quality global curriculum can achieve their goal to become a ‘Global University’ by connecting to the global ecosystem, attracting international students, promoting research & innovation, developing scientific temperament, and providing necessary skills training required to produce a global citizen. He shed light on the importance of creating a ‘dynamic teaching-learning environment’ by practising innovative teaching pedagogies so that students & teachers can learn by inspiring & interacting with each other. He stressed on the need to provide active learning opportunities to students in the form of academic, extra-curricular and off-campus activities, so that they can explore, experiment, succeed, compete, and improve fearlessly. Discussing the strategies to become a global university, Dr. Prahlad Ramarao emphasized that young Central Universities should focus on promoting research by establishing research entre & centre of excellence, formulating international advisory boards and collaborating with industrial & science institutes. He said that universities should encourage their faculty and research scholars to work on multi-disciplinary / interdisciplinary / collaborative research projects to develop innovative solutions to the problems of society and the world.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari complimented keynote speaker for inspiring faculty & staff members to transform CUPB into a global university. He added, that the ideas shared by Dr. Prahlada Ramarao are very much synchronised with NEP-2020 and CUPB is committed to taking necessary steps for their implementation. Towards the end, Prof. Monisha Dhiman delivered the formal vote of thanks. The programme was attended by CUPB faculty, administrators & students.
