Central University of Tamil Nadu hosts VIIIth Convocation with 854 Graduates
The Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) hosted its VIIIth Convocation, recognizing the accomplishments of 854 graduates.
This year’s convocation holds particular significance as the Central University of Tamil Nadu recently achieved an impressive A+ (A Plus) ranking with a score of 3.44 in the second cycle of accreditation and assessment by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). This remarkable leap from B++ to A+ highlights the university’s commitment to academic excellence and continuous improvement.
During the convocation proceedings, degrees were conferred upon 854 graduates, representing a diverse group of achievers with 467 females and 387 males.
Central University of Tamil Nadu’s VIIIth Convocation was presided over by Honourable Chancellor of CUTN, Padma Bhushan Prof. G. Padmanaban, in the presence of Prof. M. Krishnan, Vice Chancellor, Prof. R. Thirumurugan, Registrar, CA GR Giridharan, Finance Officer, Prof. Sulochana Shekhar, Controller of Examinations, and Dr. R Parameshwaran, Librarian. Also in attendance were deans, heads, faculty, officers, staff, scholars, students, and proud parents.
Honourable Chancellor of CUTN, Padma Bhushan Prof. G. Padmanaban said in his address, “I encourage students to pursue vocations that not only fulfil their aspirations but also contribute meaningfully to society. The pursuit of knowledge and innovation should be accompanied by a sense of responsibility towards one’s community and nation”. He added, “I urge them to draw inspiration from individuals like Honourable President Droupadi Murmu, whose remarkable journey exemplifies the power of perseverance and determination.”
While speaking about the new accreditation system of NAAC, Honourable Chancellor of CUTN, Padma Bhushan Prof. G. Padmanaban said, “The proposed new system for accreditation marks a significant step forward in the evolution of higher education in India. It aims to streamline the approval, accreditation, and ranking processes, ensuring simplicity, objectivity, and transparency” he added, “The phased implementation of the binary accreditation and maturity-based graded accreditation underscores a meticulous approach towards enhancing the standards of higher education. It reflects a commitment to gradual but impactful transformation.” Chancellor Prof. G. Padmanaban said, “NAAC’s pivotal role in driving these reforms underscores its commitment to quality assurance in Indian higher education. These initiatives herald a new era of accountability and excellence in academia.”
Prof M Krishnan, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Tamil Nadu, congratulated the graduates for their achievements, their parents for their steadfast support, and faculty and staff members for their committed service during his address. Vice Chancellor expressed his happiness about the NAAC ranking and stated, “I am happy to inform that our University has been accredited with A+ in the second cycle of NAAC assessment in 2024. It is noteworthy to mention that the accreditation has enhanced from B++ to A+, posting a score increase from 2.78 to 3.44. Our University’s commitment to academic excellence is evident in our impressive rankings. CUTN’s academic prowess is underscored by its impressive accolades and rankings, with notable mentions in prestigious listings such as the 89th position in NIRF 2023 and the 12th spot in the IIRF University Rankings 2023. In addition, our Department of Chemistry has achieved a notable ranking of 55 in the Nature Index annual table for 2023.”
Prof Krishnan, Vice Chancellor added, “Through initiatives like the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan programme, we are making a tangible impact on the lives of people in our adopted villages, providing essential amenities and fostering community development.” He stated, Our Skill Hub Programme aims to empower our students with essential vocational skills, ensuring they are not just job-seekers but job creators, contributing to the nation’s skilled workforce.”
While addressing academia and industry collaboration, Vice Chancellor stated, “Our academic collaborations with reputed international institutions and signing of Memorandum of Understanding at both national and international levels reflect our commitment to fostering interdisciplinary learning and global engagement.”
Vice-chancellor expressed his happiness stating UGC has approved three new departments, the Department of Pharmaceutical Science, Department of Food Science and Department of Foreign Languages, which will be started soon. Vice Chancellor added, “As we look ahead, our vision is to become a leading institution in higher education, expanding our academic programs, fostering research, and serving the community in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020.”
