Chair Xiaoyan Huang ’91 headlines new slate of officers, members for YAA Board of Governors

The quiet summer months mark a time of big transition on the Yale Alumni Association Board of Governors, with a new slate of executive officers taking charge and new members joining the board.

The change starts at the top, where Xiaoyan Huang ’91 takes over as chair after serving two years as the board’s vice chair. Jerry Henry ’80 MDiv transitions to the role of immediate past chair after helming the board through two unusual years impacted by the pandemic and the YAA’s transition to remote meetings and programming.

“Jerry’s dedication to Yale humbles all of us,” Huang said of the South Carolina native. “He is a southern gentleman in all the very best ways and a superb leader of great vision and quiet strength. I am fortunate and humbled to follow in his footsteps and thank him for his service and dedication.”

Huang will be joined in the leadership by incoming Vice Chair Jennifer Ebisemiju Madar ’88, who served as an executive officer for the 2021-22 academic year, and executive officers Ben Bartolome ’16, Wendy Maldonado D’Amico ’93, and Jeff Feldman ’95 MBA.

Huang and Madar will serve two-year terms running through June 2024, with Bartolome, D’Amico, and Feldman serving one-year terms through June 2023.

“This is a remarkable group of alumni volunteer leaders who will lead the YAA into the future with grace, determination, and motivation to create an unparalleled alumni experience for all Yalies,” said Henry. “I am proud and honored to have served as chair of the YAA Board of Governors for the past two years, and I am thrilled to stay on the board for the coming two years to see all that this wonderful group accomplishes.”

The new board members for 2022-23 are Monika Advocate ’97 MA, Vishal Agrawal ’96, ’96 MS, ’02 MD, Rémie Christ ’91, Stephan Davis ’16 DNP, Young Joon (YJ) Kim ’80, and Robin Mendelson ’96 MBA. Mark Badger ’91 and OrLando Yarborough ’10 PhD have been selected to full three-year terms after stepping in to fill the remainders of partial terms in 2021-22. In addition, Nik Khakee ’96 MPPM and Ali Mohamadi ’98 have been selected to each fill a one-year term vacancy for 2022-23.

“All of us at the YAA are so excited for this coming term,” said YAA Executive Director Weili Cheng ’77, herself a past board chair. “We have accomplished so much in the past two years, often under challenging circumstances. We have emerged stronger than ever, excited to grow our programs and offerings to engage alumni anywhere and everywhere with the YAA and with Yale. This new cohort of board members will with this effort, and we can’t wait to start working with them.”

Terms for the YAA Board of Governors run July 1 through June 30. The chair and vice chair of the board each serve two-year terms, which conclude on June 30 of each even year, with board members serving three-year terms and executive officers elected or re-elected on an annual basis.
