Chander Gaind, known as Public DC, takes over charge as Commissioner Patiala Division

Patiala: 2004 batch Senior IAS Officer Chandra Gaind today assumed charge as Divisional Commissioner, Patiala Division. He was earlier serving as the Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries, Punjab and some time ago he was posted as Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur.

On his arrival at District Administrative Complex, Patiala, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit, SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Pooja Sial Grewal, SDM Dr. Charanjit Singh, Assistant Commissioner (G) Ismat Vijay Singh, Assistant Commissioner (UT) Mr. Jagnoor Singh Grewal and Miss Jasleen Kaur and other officials, welcomed Chander Gaind, Divisional Commissioner.

On the occasion, a contingent of police saluted Gaind with a guard of honor.

After assuming office, Gaind held a brief meeting with the DC and other officers and directed all the officers to implement the policies and programs of the government in a coordinated manner.

Gaind said his priority would be to give timely justice to all the people who come to seek justice without any delay, including drawing up new programs related to the people and taking decisions in the public interest. He said , the development programs would be expedited besides closely monitoring the quality of work.

Gaind said that Patiala district being the home district of Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh and Lok Sabha Member Mrs. Preneet Kaur, the responsibility of the district officers become more and the government programs attached to the people and implementing of the policies, at the grassroots level will be their top priority.

Speaking on Covid-19, Gaind appealed to the people to wear masks, follow the precaution of hand washing and maintaining social distancing as only then we will be able to make the Mission Fateh launched by the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, success with the cooperation of the people.

After assuming his post as Divisional Commissioner, Chander Gaind along with his wife Dr. Richa Gaind and other family members, also paid obeisance at the local historical Gurdwara Sri Dukh Niwaran Sahib and the ancient temple Sri Kali Devi and prayed for the welfare of all.

Giani Pranam Singh, Head Granthi of Gurdwara Sahib at Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib presented Siropas to Divisional Commissioner Chander Gaind and family members while he was also felicitated at Temple Sri Kali Devi. After this, Gaind also visited the Gaushala of Municipal Corporation on Sanour Road where he was felicitated by Anish Mangla, President of Radha Krishna Gaou Sewa Samiti who is managing the affairs of Gaushala.

It may be recalled that Chandra Gaind as Deputy Commissioner of Ferozepur has many distinctions to his credit. He was the first DC to travel y train to play tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Rajguru and Sukhdev at Hussainiwala Martyrs Memorial. He took unique steps and took decisions which were highly appreciated by the people from all walks of life. Gaind had appointed Anmol Beri, a 15-year-old girl suffering from locomotor disease, as DC for one day and also appointed Anmol as the brand ambassador for Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign in Ferozepur district.

Similarly, Gaind took an important and unique decision for the success of the Ghar Ghar Haryalee mission launched by the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh in the district. He also introduced Gun for Plants making in mandatory to plant and taking care of 10 saplings for the aspirants to get ammunition license in the district. Under this programme, the arm licensee candidate should bring 10 saplings before taking application and take care of these saplings and attach their progress with his application by taking selfies. It was only after this that the file of the aspirant for the ammunition license was forwarded, which is still applicable in Ferozepur district.

After restoring the ownership of the house to an old lady, saying in his own words “I am just like your son and look after you” and by putting a notice outside his office and residence – ‘No gifts on Diwali, only Blessings’ made him more popular among the people as Public DC.

While assuming the office of Chandra Gaind, the entire staff of Divisional Commissioner office including Tehsildar Ranjit Singh and Naib Tehsildar Pawandeep Singh, were present.
