Child Protection Services Department rescues Minor girl at Udhampur

Udhampur: Child Protection Services Department has rescued a minor girl who was being forcibly married.
On receiving the information regarding forcibly marriage of a minor girl aged 13 years with a person aged 35 years, the Child Protection Services (CPS) team, on the direction of Chairman District Child Protection Society (DDC Udhampur), Dr Piyush Singla and supervision of District Child Protection Officer (DSWO, Udhampur) Er Sajad Bashir Somberia acted swiftly and verified the allegations by cross checking the age of girl child as recorded in her educational certificate.
The Girl was rescued and an FIR was registered at Police Station Ramnagar vide FIR no. 95/2020 dated 11/08/2020 U/S 9/10 of Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and all the accused involved in solemnization of minor’s marriage were arrested.
The minor was produced before Child Welfare Committee, Udhampur by the Police as per Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 for her proper Care and Protection.
After interaction with the minor by the Committee and PONIC (Protection Officer Non – Institutional Care), a detailed counseling session was provided by female Officers of District Child Protection Unit (DCPU). During counseling, the minor girl wished to continue her studies. Considering that the girl is in need of Care and Protection, Child Welfare Committee gave her in temporary custody of her Aunt. DCPU team is in regular touch with the minor on daily basis and follow up is taken.
In this connection, CPS department will provide every possible help for the well being and Education of the minor.
Meanwhile Child Welfare Committee is in regular touch with Police Station, Ramnagar for further course of action and development in the case. The DCPU has appealed to the general masses to desist from forced child marriage in the interest of their girl children in particular and society as a whole.
