Children from Kangaroo Kids Wadala center rally to send a message of ‘Go Green’
Mumbai: Children from Kangaroo Kids preschool at Wadala held a rally to spread a message of ‘Go Green’ on Friday. The main aim to organize this rally was to empower and inform the children about the importance of a healthy environment.
Almost 200-250 children, parents and teachers participated in this rally that was held in two batches from morning 9.30am till 10.15am and 1pm till 1.45pm from their school till SIWS college at Wadala.
Dhara Gogri, principal, Kangaroo Kids pre-school, Wadala, said, “What begins in the school can soon spread to community, as parents learn from their children on how to reduce waste, recycle and re-use in their home as well. Change in the climate has been alarming and that’s what we have taught our children about GO GREEN’, 3R’S and SAVE WATER. Placards were used in the rally by the children to spread the message of planting trees and saving water.”
The messages the children learnt and spread through their rally were GO GREEN: to conserve natural resources for our tiny tots; 3R’S: reduce waste, recycle trash and transform into new product, re-use the product in many ways; SAVE WATER: Conserving water means using our water supply wisely and in a responsible manner.
After the rally, children planted saplings in and around their school. They also decided to follow this practice in their homes and plant saplings in their societies. This rally was not just about sending a message about going green but also teaching them about turning off lights before leaving the room, turning off water tap while brushing teeth, checking taps in case its dripping, banning plastic bags, bottle containers, take their own cloth bags while shopping instead of using plastic bags.
“In a fun way they were made aware of products that can be recycled. We used visual pictures to show them items such as papers, cartons, bottles, tetra packs etc. that can be recycled. Not just recycling but students were also showed different ways to save water like taking bath using buckets instead of taking shower, using left over water for gardening etc. Apart from building a foundation that is based on academics, we also lay emphasis on the social aspects of the children’s growing up years. Our children should be environmentally conscious throughout the year. Children as young as 1.5 years participating in a rally can not only impact their parents but also society at large.” Gogri added further.
