Cinema should take up social issues more aggressively: Himachal Pradesh Governor
Shimla: Governor Acharya Devvrat presenting International Film Festival Shimla Award in International category at Shimla,
Governor Acharya Devvrat today said that cinema was the most effective and popular art which instantly impresses our hearts and minds. It always had a strong impact on the society and there was need to ensure that message spread through cinema was rational.
He was speaking at the award ceremony of Third International Film festival organized by Himalayan Velocity with the support of the Himachal Language, Art and Culture department at here at the Gaiety Theater.
The Governor said cinema was capable of bringing constructive changes in society, generating human qualities, sense of patriotism and raising voice against the social evils. He appealed the film producers to concentrate more on social issues.
Acharya Devvrat expressed the need to educate the masses by taking up social issues like drug menace, corruption, poverty, female foeticide and this way cinema could become meaningful in a true sense.
He congratulated the organizers for organizing International Film Festival at Shimla, which had provided an excellent platform to the short film makers. He expressed hope that such festivals would be organized in regular intervals.
The Governor watched the premiere of movie ‘Saavat’ directed by Swapnil Raj Shekhar and Kavita Churi.
Festival Director Pushp Raj Thakur honoured the Governor on the occasion.
