CK Birla Hospital® organizes a walkathon for International Women’s Day to #BreakTheBias and forge equality for women’s health

Delhi : The CK Birla Hospital® commemorated International Women’s Day through a 5 km long walkathon around their Punjabi Bagh West facility. There were over 500 participants, including senior leadership and doctors among general public who ran under four categories of 1, 2, 3, or 5 kilometers to celebrate the spirit of womanhood. The marathon also highlighted the need for and importance of women’s health.

According to public health officials and published reports, during the pandemic, women’s health worsened in several areas, from nutrition to stress to reproductive well-being. Women’s health, especially their reproductive health, is often complicated by societal taboos and women’s second tier status in some societies. Due to the lockdown-imposed restrictions, women’s access to health services was severely limited.

Speaking on the occasion, Akshat Seth, CEO, CK Birla Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., said, “The initiative undertaken by the CK Birla Hospital® to celebrate International Women’s Day is a reminder that each one of us has more to give to women in this country. The recent National Family Health Survey-5 (2019-20) highlights that there has been a steady increase in incidences of anaemia, stroke and heart disease among women in India. One of the primary reasons for this is that women often don’t prioritize their health over other responsibilities. Therefore, we called upon people to participate in this marathon and support women’s empowerment in all walks of life, including healthcare.”

Commenting on the launch of the new facility, Vipul Jain, Chief Business Officer, CK Birla Hospital®, said, ‘’While poor health and socio-economic status affect millions of women and young girls, accessibility and affordability of healthcare services further increases the challenges. At the CK Birla Hospital®, our endeavour is to provide all the amenities, outpatient rooms, advanced labour and recovery rooms, chemotherapy daycare lounge, state-of-the art diagnostics, physiotherapy unit, and other services for our female patients. We are committed to bridging the gap by providing accessibility to quality healthcare for women”.
