Classplus expands to South East Asia, exhibits scalability and global readiness

The fast-growing edtech startup intends to tap into the growing $25B online learning market in the region and provide an all-in-one content commerce platform to educators and content creators there

Noida: Classplus, a mobile platform for educators and content creators to launch their online teaching businesses, has entered Southeast Asian countries like Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia to commence its international expansion as it looks to expand into more countries this year. Internet penetration in Southeast Asian countries is high and close to 30% of the household income is spent on online learning, making it a market of choice for edtech startups. Classplus plans to tap into this high demand for microlearning, especially at a time when the number of internet users in the region stands at a whooping 400 million.

Given the size of the market, and almost 60% of the students opting for online courses and supplementary learning outside school, Classplus provides a massive opportunity for a growing population of educators and content creators to monetise their passion by sharing their expertise online. The platform allows educators to teach online as well as create and sell digital content to students beyond their immediate neighborhoods.

Classplus has already served more than 200,000 educators and students outside India. It has introduced vernacularity into the product and built new infrastructure to support international payments. Furthermore, the company has also made changes to the UI and UX based on geography in order to accommodate the preferences of the users there.

“Although we had first built Classplus for the Indian use case of educators, we gradually noticed educators and non-academic content creators, from both India and outside, successfully taking their businesses online using our product. It made us realize that there was a larger market to be explored. We are now aggressively building our engineering and business teams for international expansion.” said Mukul Rustagi, Co-Founder & CEO, Classplus.

As examples, Deepti Gaur, a fitness coach based in Germany, began using Classplus last year to run online cohorts and courses, and she has since coached over 10,000 fitness enthusiasts. Similarly, Dr. Susanth, a well-known trading and investment coach based out of the Middle East, discovered Classplus and today uses the platform to launch his online courses globally.

“We are excited to launch in SEA and contribute to the education ecosystem there. Our platform is available to all the educators and content creators in SEA looking to grow their reach and income. The seamless launch and the early adoption that we’ve seen from the region is encouraging for our journey towards becoming a powerful global player.” added Mukul.

Since the launch, Classplus has seen massive adoption from educators teaching academic courses across K-12 and test prep as well as content creators from non-academic categories like lifestyle, personal finance, and programming. Given the traction they are seeing, Classplus intends to go global and expand to other geographies in the next 9-12 months. They also plan to invest in local talent across sales, customer success, and tech to support operations in the region.

Founded in 2018, Classplus is firmly positioned in the thriving edtech sector. So far, they have enabled a digital identity for 100,000+ teachers who are using the platform to teach 25M+ students across 3000+ cities in India and have raised over $90 million in funding from leading investors like Tiger Global, GSV Ventures, and Alpha Wave Global. Very recently, Classplus also announced key leadership additions to the team and onboarded a new CTO and CFO.
