Clinical meet held on the rise of Dry Eye disease

 

ALIGARH  : The Institute of Ophthalmology, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a Clinical Meet to address the rise of Dry Eye disease following cataract surgery.

Prof A.K. Amitava, Director of the Institute, discussed the surge in Dry Eye cases, exacerbated by increased screen usage during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly among children and young adults. He said that statistics reveal a substantial Dry Eye prevalence of approximately 30% in India, with post-cataract surgery patients constituting 37% of these cases.

Dr. M. Saquib, a consulting ophthalmologist, elucidated various tear substitute options and emphasized refrigeration for preservation, especially during the summer months.

Dr. Ayesha, a senior resident, delved into the causes of Dry Eye disease and challenges in coping with it. She shed light on the occurrence of the disease in older age groups, frequent screen users, and post-intraocular surgery dryness in patients, including children, after conjunctivitis.

Dr. Zia Siddiqui provided insights into the causes of Dry Eye post-Cataract surgery and discussed the preventive measures.
