CME at Department of Ilmul Advia

Aligarh : Doctors of the Department of Ilmul Advia, A K Tibbiya College (AKTC), Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) are updating their knowledge and skills to maintain competence in the morphology, identification, characteristic features, pharmacological actions and uses of Unani drugs in a six-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme that began on December 5, Monday.

The Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, New Delhi has sponsored the CME.

Attending the inaugural function as the Chief Guest, Padma Shri Prof Syed Zillur Rahman pressed the need for keeping the health workers abreast of the developments in their field.

“Continuing medical education is an essential component of health sciences which must be consistent with the stated objectives of the National policies and I am sure that this CME will provide opportunities to update knowledge, skills and practices of health professionals involved at different levels of health care delivery systems”, said Prof Zillur Rahman.

He also spoke about the achievements of the Department of Ilmul Advia alumnus working in prominent institutes and universities.

“Programmmes like these will produce more confident Ilmul Advia professionals who would act as excellent resource in various fields like dispensaries and pharmaceutical companies, research institutes and medicinal plant conservation among other areas”, said Prof F S Sherani (Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine).

Prof Shagufta Aleem (Principal, AKTC) stressed the need for providing health workers with an evidence-based framework for personal growth and a platform for continuous acquisition of new knowledge, skills, and attitudes to enable competent practice.

“Since in the past decade continuing medical education has come to include technological, managerial, social, and personal skills and other areas beyond the traditional clinical medical subjects; it is imperative that the health workers attain competences needed to practice high quality medicine”, said Prof Abdul Wadud (Director, National Institute of Unani Medicine, Bangalore).

Dr Abdur Rauf (Chairman, Dept of Ilmul Advia and Coordinator, CME Programme) delivered the welcome address.

Dr Sumbul Rehman extended the vote of thanks.

Unani doctors and faculty members from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Telangana are participating in the CME.
