Aligarh : Faculty members of the Department of Amraz-e-Niswan-wa-Atfal, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) honed skills for patient care and acquired knowledge of latest developments in their specialties in the six-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme that concluded on October 1.

The CME was sponsored by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.

Attending the valedictory function as the Chief Guest, Dr Hameeda Tariq (well-known pediatrician) spoke on the rich and diverse knowledge and practice of classical medical philosophy and the traditional Indian medicine systems such as Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Yoga and Naturopathy.

Addressing the Ilmul Atfal (Unani pediatric) teachers, she emphasised the importance of breastfeeding neonates.

“Breastmilk gives babies a healthy start in life and it is the only food infants need for the first six months. It also keeps changing with every feed to suit the baby’s needs and stage of growth. It goes without saying that breastfed babies remain healthier than the ones who are not breastfed”, she added.

In the presidential address, Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Gulrez talked about the efforts of the Government to integrate modern and traditional medicine systems for a holistic healthcare strategy and facilitating cross-sectoral collaborations.

“India is poised to play a crucial role in positioning traditional medicine across the globe.
