CME held on Adverse Events in Dentistry

ALIGARH : The Department of Oral Medicine and Dental Radiology, Dr. Z.A. Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University, in collaboration with the Medical Device Adverse Event Monitoring Centre, J.N. Medical College, AMU, organized a National CME on “Adverse Events in Dentistry”, with special focus on the theme, “Undertaking the Risks of Dental Devices and Strategies to Improve Monitoring”.

The CME aimed at enhancing awareness among dental professionals about the critical importance of identifying, reporting, and managing adverse events related to dental materials and procedures.

Dr. Shatrunajay Shukla from IPC, Ghaziabad, provided an overview of the MvPI and the methods available for reporting adverse events, including a toll-free reporting number.

IN his keynote address, Prof. Geeta Rajput, Department of Prosthodontics and Dental Materials, AMU emphasized the importance of materiovigilance in dental practice, the role of dental professionals in patient safety, and the dual nature of dental devices.

Prof. Pravesh Mehra, Director, Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Lady Hardinge Medical College and Associated Hospitals, New Delhi, discussed the challenges and opportunities in Materiovigilance, using real-life cases to illustrate the learned lessons and best practices.

The guest of honour, Dr. Vivekanandan Kalaiselvan, Senior Principal Scientific Officer and MvPI Incharge, Ghaziabad discussed future steps to enhance Materiovigilance in dentistry and urged participants to contribute to the safety and efficacy of dental practices.

Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal and CMS, JN Medical College, AMU appreciated the collaboration between Dr. Z.A. Dental College and the Materiovigilance Program of India, for the benefit of the patients.

Prof. R. K. Tiwari, Principal, ZADC, emphasized the importance of data reporting and urged the doctors for their active participation in this effort.

Earlier, Prof. Pradhuman Verma, the Organizing Secretary and Chairman of the Department of Oral Medicine and Dental Radiology, welcomed the guest speakers while Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Chairman, Department of Pharmacology and Coordinator, MDMC, MvPI, JNMC, then introduced the theme of the CME.

Pharmacovigilance Associate Gufran Ali said that about 130 dental professionals from various dental colleges and hospitals attended the event in presence of representatives from the Society of Pharmacovigilance India and Materiovigilance Program of India, including Prof. K. C. Singhal, Dr. Shatrunajay Shukla, Mr. V. Naveen, Ms. Krishna, and Mr. Amol Raj.

Dr. Sidra Aslam and Dr. Sehla Batool, Residents, Oral Medicine and Radiology, conducted the scientific session, while Dr. Pragya Roy conducted the inaugural ceremony.
