Columbia University: Duchesne Drew and Keith Goggin Join Columbia’s Board of Trustees

Columbia University has announced the election of Duchesne Drew (CC’89) and Keith Goggin (JRN’91) to its Board of Trustees.

Drew has been the president of Minnesota Public Radio since the spring of 2020, overseeing a network of 46 stations serving most of Minnesota. Goggin spent 22 years as a market maker and specialist on the New York Stock Exchange and the American Stock Exchange prior to his retirement in 2018.

“Columbia is very fortunate to have members like Duchesne and Keith on its Board of Trustees,” said President Lee C. Bollinger. “These are very successful individuals of exceptional talent and judgment who have chosen to devote their time to the service of this University. It’s a pleasure to welcome them.”

As an undergraduate at Columbia College, Drew worked as a staff writer at the Columbia Daily Spectator, served as the paper’s news editor, and mentored and tutored college-bound high school students at the Double Discovery Center. After graduation, he spent two years working as a development officer at Double Discovery. He has also served on the Board of the Spectator.

Goggin joined the Alumni Executive Committee at Columbia Journalism School in 1992. He currently serves on the school’s Board of Visitors and as co-chair of its capital campaign. He also serves on and is a past chair of the Columbia Alumni Association, where he currently chairs the Scholarship Committee.

Drew is president of Minnesota Public Radio, one of the nation’s premier public radio outlets producing programming for radio, digital, and live audiences. The group is a subsidiary of American Public Media Group. As president, Drew leads MPR’s strategy, programming, and daily operations serving growing audiences through MPR News, Your Classical MPR, The Current and MPR’s rapidly expanding digital, social, and mobile services.

Drew came to MPR from the Bush Foundation, where he led the foundation’s leadership programs, community innovation, and communication teams and built networks across the region as its Community Network vice president. Prior to his role at the Bush Foundation, Drew was managing editor of operations at Star Tribune. He began there as a summer intern and rose to one of the most senior roles in the newsroom, leading more than 50 staff members and, among other duties, managing the newsroom’s recruitment and training programs and community outreach efforts. Drew’s journalism career has also included reporting for The Dallas Morning News and the Orange County Register. In 2019, he was honored with the Widening the Circle Award by ThreeSixty Journalism, recognizing individuals who have contributed to the next generation of journalists. In 2021, he was inducted into the Hall of Achievement at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications.

Drew graduated from Columbia College with a B.A. in history. He went on to earn an M.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

Keith Goggin was a market maker and specialist on the New York Stock Exchange and the American Stock Exchange for more than two decades. He served as the Managing Member of STR Trading Partners, a founder and the Managing Member of STR Specialists, and a founding member of Integral Derivatives. Prior to his trading career, he worked in the Derivative Securities division of the American Stock Exchange. Among his roles at the AmEx, Goggin was the research manager for the Exchange’s Derivative Securities division and was involved in the Exchange’s efforts to establish and grow the market for Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). He began his career as a financial reporter and served as the Managing Editor of The IPO Reporter at Investment Dealers Digest.

Goggin received a B.A. in Economics from Colgate University and an M.S. in Journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He has co-chaired the Columbia Alumni Association 2023 Strategic Planning Task Force and the Strategic Planning Committee and chaired the Honors & Prizes Committee. He also serves on the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee of the Columbia University Club of New York, the Board of Columbia Global Reports, the Columbia Climate Board of Advisors, the President’s Council for Columbia World Projects, and the Campaign Executive Committee for the Columbia Commitment. Goggin was a University Senator and co-chair of the Senate Alumni Relations Committee. In 2013, he received the Alumni Medal, and in 2016, he was awarded the Journalism School’s Founder’s Award.
