Commercial Floriculture: Training cum awareness camp organised at Bhaderwah Village

BHADERWAH : One day training cum awareness programme on commercial Floriculture was organized by Floriculture Department at village Sartingal of block Bhaderwah.

As many as 80 members of different women Self Help Groups participated in the training programme.

Assistant Floriculture Officer Doda, Pawan Kumar educated them about cultivation of Marigold, Lavender, protected cultivation of High value cut flowers and establishment of Lavender nurseries to get higher returns than traditional farming. He informed that in district Doda more than 350 farmers are cultivating Marigold every year and earning handsome money.

More than 1000 numbers of families are involved in Lavender cultivation leaving the traditional farming like maize, wheat etc which fetch them meager income. After adopting commercial Floriculture by cultivating lavender and marigold their income has quadrupled, he told the farmers.

“The Department of Floriculture, besides providing scientific know-how, is also providing incentives to the farmers under centrally sponsored schemes,” he informed. He advised women farmers to adopt commercial floriculture by cultivating Hybrid Marigold and lavender to earn higher profit from a small piece of land. “You can easily carry out all cultural operations required for cultivation of these crops and meet the day to day needs by earning handsome money,” he added.
