Commissioner Secretary visits Forest, Wildlife areas in Srinagar district
Srinagar: Commissioner Secretary, Forests, Environment and Ecology Department, Sarita Chauhan, today visited various Forest and Wildlife areas of Srinagar district.
Chauhan, during her visit to Kralsangri Nursery of Urban Forestry Division, Srinagar, had a detailed review of various nursery works including availability of stock for winter plantation. She was accompanied by S.F.A Gillani, CCF, Kashmir, CF Srinagar Forest Circle and DFO Urban Forestry Division, Srinagar.
Commissioner Secretary instructed the nursery staff for proper labeling of all plants in the nursery. She also advised the officers that all the agencies involved in plantations must keep a track of all the saplings planted to ensure their establishment, as nursery plants involve investment of time, labour and financial resources.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Secretary also planted a sampling of Deodar in the premises to mark her maiden visit to this vast nursery which has an available stock of 3.95 lakh plants, of which, 2.65 lakh are of plantable size.
Later, Commissioner Secretary visited Dachigam National Park besides had a detailed interaction with the officers of Wildlife and Territorial Forests at Nature Interpretation Centre.
She stressed upon the need to appreciate traditional knowledge and its documentation through People’s Biodiversity Registers. She called upon the Wildlife officials for monitoring and regulating the entry of visitors to this prestigious protected area.
She was briefed about various management aspects dealing with protection of Hangul. The need for wildlife corridors connecting protected areas and regulation of activities adjacent to their boundaries was also discussed including the proposal for Wildlife trekking routes.
