Community-based Alternative digital university AltUni raises $0.5 Mn towards its mission of enhancing India’s human capital

Altuni’s explosive growth is fueled by a community of 5 million students and professionals in a unique model that lowers the cost of acquisition

Mumbai: AltUni by InsideIIM, an alternative digital university, has raised $0.5 million through a host of angel investors. The capital raised will be deployed for further developing its online platform, advanced learning programs and strengthening community engagement to make India’s youth industry-ready. AltUni is building an edtech company that will transform the quality of human capital in India. AltUni has over 1800 alumni in less than 18 months and an average revenue run rate of well above $1 Million as of Jan 2022. 40% of the team consists of women and this number is slated to reach 50% soon.

Launched in 2020, AltUni provides short modules of immersive online learning courses instead of remote learning programs that stretch endlessly and become redundant with the passage of time. The university does not offer degrees or diplomas but facilitates a connection between learners and industry leaders, and provides opportunities to interview with India’s top companies. Every program offers a live industry project and personalised counselling.

AltUni owes its rapid growth to the InsideIIM.com community. InsideIIM is India’s largest MBA platform, catering to 400K+ unique users every month, and around five million unique users every year. The platform’s YouTube channel garners over 10 million views every year. This community is the backbone of AltUni and helps AltUni acquire users at zero cost.

AltUni has partnered with companies such as Hindustan Unilever, TATACliq, Aditya Birla Capital and ECom Express for its learning programs. It has also worked with universities such as SDA Bocconi in Milan and SPJIMR in Mumbai.

“I am glad to partner with marquee angel investors Amit Gupta, Mukesh Maniar, Rahul Gupta, Gautam Gurnani, Rajit Desai, Vandana Serrao, Saloni Doshi, Suhani Doshi and Saurav Tibrewal who share the same passion for creating new-age learning content that is immersive and aligns with industry needs. We want to contribute towards making India the skills capital of the world,” stated Ankit Doshi, Creator of AltUni.in and InsideIIM.

A large number of teams within the company are led by women. The team behind InsideIIM and AltUni has over 40% women and before October 2022 it will be well over 50%.

“We had made this announcement over a year back and we are going to achieve it ahead of schedule. Almost all major teams in the company are led by women. We believe that women leaders give AltUni and InsideIIM a foundational edge and we will go out of our way to hire more women,” said Ankit Doshi.
