Competitions held at AMU Girls’ School on S S Day

Aligarh: Faiza Noman (Class X, AMU Girls School) bagged the first prize in the Inter School Essay Writing Competition, held to mark the Sir Syed Day celebrations at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Girls’ School.

Anamta Rehman (XII Arts, AMU Girls School) and Anza Akram (XII Science, AMU Girls School) shared the second prize in the competition, while Ayesha Jabeen (IX, AMU Girls School) and Amna Beg (X, AMU Girls School) jointly stood at the third position. The consolation prize was won by Kamishka Saraswat (IX, AMU ABK High School Girls).

Hira Jamal (X, AMU Girls School) was the winner of the Inter School Art Competition in which Uddeshya Sharma (XII Commerce, AMU City School) and Umme Habeeba (IX, AMU Girls School) stood second. The third prize was shared by Danyal Wasim (XII CMP/SFS, AMU City School) and Aryan Pratap Singh (X, AMU City School). Aleena Arif (X, AMU City Girls High School) was given the consolation prize.

In the Intra School Self Composed Poetry Writing Competition, which had participants only from the AMU Girls School; Bashira Ashraf (Class XII) was declared the winner, while Afrah Asif (X) and Adeeba Haroon (XII) stood at the second position. Adeeba Aslam (IX), Atifa Waheed Ansari (IX), Humaira Tariq (X) and Shazia Parveen (X) shared the third prize and Saniya (X) won the consolation prize.

In the Intra School English Handwriting Competition, Sophiya Khan (Class III) secured the first position in the Class I to III category, while Gauri Saxena (III) and Shifa Khan (II) were the first and second runner-ups respectively. Kumari Deepika (IV), Sumbul Nigar (V) and Yusra (V) won the first, second and third prizes respectively in the IV to VIII category.

Afaf Saghir (Class VIII), Mansi Swaroop (VII) and Ilma Owais Siddiqui (VIII) respectively won the first, second and third prizes in the Intra School Card Making Competition. The consolation prize was given to Sara Ashraf (VIII).

The Chief Guest, Prof Asfar Ali Khan (Director, Directorate of Education-DSE) urged students to follow Sir Syed’s idea of ‘being Inquisitive’.

Attending the function as the Guest of Honour, Prof Shahab Fazal (Deputy Director, DSE) advised students to do their best in academics and co-curricular activities.

Renowned poetess, Ms Sabiha Sumbul, who also attended the online programme as the Guest of Honour, recited poems on Sir Syed’s work and philosophy.

Anamta Rehman presented an autobiographical account of Sir Syed and Adeeba Zafar and Maryam Abdullah B delivered speeches in English and Urdu respectively. Innama Zehra recited a poem on Sir Syed, while Ifrah Sheikh read famous quotes of Sir Syed.

Ms Amna Malik (Principal) delivered the welcome address. Ms Zeba Nawaz extended the vote of thanks.

Meanwhile, in the Arts Competition for Class VII students on ‘Poster on Ahinsa’ to observe the Gandhi Jayanti at the AMU Girls’ School; Tazkiya Jannat stood first, Sanjana Kashyap secured the second position, Madiha Imran was declared third and Sarah Waqar won the consolation prize.

Class VII students of the school, Mafaza Sherwani, Sidra Parveen, Azeema Khan and Pragya Sharma bagged the first, second, third and consolation prizes respectively in the Arts Competition on ‘Portrait of Mahatma Gandhi’.
