Complex arthroscopic shoulder surgery done at JNMCH

ALIGARH : A team of orthopedic consultants at the J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, under the leadership of Prof Naiyer Asif performed a complicated arthroscopic shoulder surgery on a 55 years’ female patient, Malti Prashar, a resident of Hathras, who was suffering from acute pain in her right shoulder after sustaining an injury a year ago. She had complaints of painful shoulder movements and visited Sports OPD, JNMCH, where she was diagnosed a case of rotator cuff tear in her shoulder. After thorough radiological examination (MRI), the doctors suggested arthroscopic repair of rotator cuff.

The surgery team consisted of Dr. M. J. Khan (Consultant), Dr. Chandan Singh (SR), Dr. M. Ahsan Firoz, Dr. Pranjal Agrawal (JRs) and the anaesthesia team headed by Dr. Abu Nadeem.

Dr. M. J. Khan said that rotator cuff tear is quite common and it is an expensive surgery in corporate hospitals. He said people from Aligarh and adjoining areas need not to go to metro cities and this procedure is now available at JNMCH at a minimal possible cost.

Prof A.Q. Khan, Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery said that it is a proud moment for the department and the college, as our doctors are doing complex surgeries in Aligarh, which will save the patients from the heavy expenses that incur on such procedures in big cities.
