Condolence meeting for Prof Seemin Hasan

ALIGARH  : The Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon paid rich tributes to the late Prof Seemin Hasan, who had passed away on May 23, and reminisced about her fond memories with Prof. Hasan since their student days in Abdullah Hall. She prayed for a higher place for her in Jannah and solace for her family and friends.

Prof Khatoon was addressing a condolence meeting organized by the AMU Women’s Club to mourn the sad demise of Prof Seemin Hasan, a senior faculty member in the Department of English, AMU and an esteemed club member.

Dr. Hameeda Tariq, the founding Patron of the Club, fondly remembered Prof. Hasan’s distinction not only as a working woman and good friend but also for her remarkable culinary skills.

Former President of the Club, Prof Azarmi Dukh Safavi, former Dean, Faculty of Arts and former Director, Institute of Persian Research, AMU highlighted the caring and generous side of Prof Hasan’s persona.

Prof. Syeda Nuzhat Zeba, President of AMU Women’s Club, praised Prof. Seemin Hasan as exemplary, recounting their long professional and personal association.

Prof. Subuhi Khan, Secretary, AMU Women’s Club said that Prof. Hasan was a treasured member whose absence is deeply felt. She described her as a great source of inspiration.

Dr. Faiza Abbasi, Director, UGC MMTTC, and founding Joint Secretary of the AMU Women’s Club said that Prof. Hasan was not only an outstanding English scholar and a gracious teacher but she will also be remembered as a role model for her extraordinary personal, social and professional diligence in the service of the good.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Prof Hasan’s son, Dr Saif paid rich tributes to his late mother and thanked the Club members for reaching out in the moment of grief. He said that the AMU was integral to her identity and the family would like to make an endowment to the University in her name, to organize commemorative lectures, literary and scholastic events and bring out quality publications.

The Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon, along with the Secretary Prof. Subuhi Khan and other members of the club, handed over the Condolence Message to Prof Abrar Hasan. A two-minute silence was also observed in memory of the late Prof. Seemin Hasan.

Prof Seemin Hasan is survived by her husband Prof Abrar Hasan, former Dean, Faculty of Medicine and sons Dr Saif and Dr. Shabih.
