Conference To Be Held By University Of Alabama At Birmingham Sports And Exercise Medicine
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Sports and Exercise Medicine team is hosting the first annual Robert A. Ferguson Endowed Lecture Series: A Conference on Running Medicine. At this conference, runners can learn more about how to better optimize their performance and avoid injury, new research in running medicine, nutrition, mental health, and more.
This one-day lecture series is on Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the UAB Hill Student Center, 1400 University Blvd., Birmingham, AL 35233.
The conference will feature a keynote address from Karl “Bert” Fields, M.D., a national leader in sports and exercise medicine, as well as panel discussions, breakout sessions and lectures with UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists and sports performance coaches. These sessions will discuss optimizing performance, avoiding injury, new research in running medicine, nutrition, mental health and more.
The conference is designed for anyone with an interest in running, ranging from runners, athletes and coaches to health care providers, athletic trainers, physical therapists and more. Registration is $20 for individual participants and includes a catered lunch. Teams, UAB-affiliated faculty and staff, and other groups can receive a discounted rate. Registration is available online and in-person at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the conference.
