Constitution Day celebrations continue

ALIGARH  : The Constitution Day-related celebrations continued at the Aligarh Muslim University.

The Law Society of the Department of Law, AMU Malappuram Centre, Kerala organized a debate and quiz competition to mark the Constitutional Day, while identity cards were distributed to the members of the Law Society belonging to different categories, including the post holders, executive members and general members.

Mohd Arfeen Masud emerged as the winner of the debate competition held on the topic, “Is granting minority status to educational institutions essential for empowering minorities and preserving cultural and religious identities?” Afina SS was declared the runner up.

The team of Mohd Asif and Ashraf Hasan won the quiz competition while the team of Sneha VK and Aqusha Tabassum were declared the runner up.

Dr. Faisal KP, Director, AMU Malappuram Centre emphasized the enduring relevance of the Constitution in ensuring justice and equality in contemporary society. He also administered a pledge to uphold the supremacy of the Constitution of India as a sacred duty.

Mr. Faisal CK, Deputy Law Secretary to the Government of Kerala and a noted columnist spoke on ‘Constitutionalism: A way ahead in India’. He shed light on the dynamic role of the Constitution in upholding the rights and freedoms of citizens with reference to the constitutionalism, rule of law, equality and women’s contributions. He discussed the historical evolution of constitutional principles, the significance of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and societal and religious freedom.

Earlier, Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmad Malik, Coordinator, Department of Law, welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of celebrating the day in making people aware of their fundamental rights and constitutional obligations.

Mr. Ghulam Ashraf Touquir, General Secretary, Law Society, welcomed the participants during the valedictory session, while Mr. Shamim Akhtar, Vice President, emphasized the significance of collective efforts in making the programme a success.

Dr Faisal KP, Dr Shahnawaz Ahmad Malik, Mr Ghalib Nashter, Dr Shally Victor and Dr Imran Ahmad distributed prizes to the winners of the debate and quiz competitions.

Mr Ghalib Nashter, the Convener of the Law Society extended a vote of thanks at the inaugural session while Ms. Nayela Raies, Secretary (Training) extended a vote of thanks at the end of the valedictory session.

At the AMU Girls’ School, the Constitution Day was celebrated under the guidance of Principal, Mrs. Amna Malik and Vice Principal, Mrs. Alka Agarwal. On this occasion, several competitive events were organized, including the essay writing competition, quiz and poster-making competition with a large number of students participating in these events.

Aiza Fatima, a student of Class IX-E delivered a speech at a special morning assembly, while Humna Khan read out the Preamble and Arzia Khan presented a poem highlighting the significance of the Constitution.

Rimsha Zafar Khan won the first prize in the essay writing competition, while Yashika and Taiba Shakeel got the second and third prizes respectively.

In the Quiz competition, Atufa Jawaid was declared first, while Areeba Parvez and Aliya Raza shared the second prize and Vaishanavi and Divyashree Gupta shared the third prize.

The first prize in the Poster Making Competition was won by Mehkashan, while the second and third prizes went to Kulsum and Mubashira Fatima, respectively.

The staff members at the Legal Section of the Registrar’s Office, took a pledge of allegiance to the Constitution of India under the leadership of Mr Arif , Joint Regisrar, Legal.

At the Proctor’s Office, the Proctor, Prof Wasim Ali, while addressing the gathering of staff members, highlighted the significance of Constitution Day in reminding the people of their constitutional obligations to safeguard its values and norms that make our democracy stronger.

At the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Jawan, under the Department of Community Medicine, J.N. Medical College, several awareness based competitive events were held under the guidance and supervision of Prof Saira Mehnaz, Chairperson of the department and Prof. Uzma Eram, Member Incharge, RHTC.

Dr. Syed Sohaib Hashmi read out the Preamble of the constitution which was repeated by other doctors and interns, and Dr. Tabassum Nawab emphasized the importance of the day in the history of India.

In the poster-making competition, five teams participated with 3 members each. The winner team comprised Dr. Pranjal Garg, Dr. Raghib Anjum and Dr. Mohd Shayan Ahmad.

Dr. Mohd Talha emerged as the winner of the essay writing competition out of 5 participants. Dr. Shivangi Kumari, Dr. Prabakaran S, Dr. Chandramouli Mitra and Dr. Nishu Malik supervised the events.

Later, five teams of doctors and interns participated in a Quiz competition, each team comprising 3 members, and the rapid-fire quiz was conducted by Dr. Chandramouli Mitra, Dr. Prabakaran S and Dr. Ameer Ayyub.

The team of Dr. Mohd Asgar, Dr. Mohd Arslan and Dr. Nadeem Aslam emerged as the winner.

Prof. Uzma Eram gave away the appreciation certificates to the winners of these events.

The Begum Sultan Jahan Hall organized an essay writing competition to mark the day. Two topics given to the participants extempore to write an essay included, “Balancing Freedom and Security: A Constitutional Dilemma” and “Analyzing the impact of constitutional amendments on Indian democracy”. 

The students and staff of the hall read out the Preamble under the stewardship of Bushra Imam, the Senior Hall Monitor.

Mohd Habib Hall organized a symposium to mark the Constitution Day, with the AMU Proctor, Prof Waseem Ali, as the guest speaker. He emphasized the significance of fundamental rights and duties and highlighted the important articles of the Indian Constitution which cover the everyday affair of the common people.
The Provost, Dr. Zubair Shadab Khan highlighted the importance of the constitution day, while Dr Aftab read out the Preamble of the Constitution. Dr. Leyaqat Khan, the event coordinator, extended a vote of thanks.

At the department of Economics, the Chairman, Prof. Shehroz Alam Rizvi read out the Preamble of the Constitution and administered a pledge for the faculty members and staff. He spoke on the importance and goals of the constitution and the significant role of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, its architect.

He said that it is important to create awareness about the fundamental duties given in the constitution, urging the faculty members and staff to promote constitutional values.
