Continuing Dental Education programme held on oral malignancies
ALIGARH : The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology/ Oral Pathology, Dr. Z.A. Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a continuing dental education (CDE) programme on “Recent Insights in Oral Malignancies: Diagnosis to Management”, in association with Jaypee Hospital, Noida, under the aegis of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine And Radiology (IAOMR), to mark the National Oral Medicine And Radiology Day, with special focus on the theme “Revolutionizing Smiles: Innovate, Illuminate, Radiate”.
Welcoming the guest speakers, the organizing chairman, Prof Pradhuman Verma highlighted the importance of CDE, adding that in view of the increasing incidence of oral cancers in the country, with UP reporting maximum number of cases of oral malignancies, the CDE will help dental professionals in getting acquainted with the recent developments in the field.
The Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal and CMS, JN Medical College, Prof Veena Maheshwari and the Principal, ZADC, Prof Rajender Kumar Tiwari appreciated the efforts to organize the programme.
In his formal welcome address, Dr Md Asadullah introduced the speakers who belonged to different specialties dealing with oral malignancies. He highlighted the role of multispecialty approach for successful management of such patients and emphasized the need for shunning deleterious habits of tobacco, alcohol and betel nut consumption, which is the main culprit for oral malignancies.
Dr Ashish Goel Onco-surgeon from JP Hospital spoke on the role of dental surgeons in spotting oral cancer and how the management and rehabilitation goes hand in hand.
Dr Abhishek Gulia, a Radiation Oncologist, JP Hospital, underlined the importance of fractionized radiotherapy and dental evaluation before, during and post radiation in oral cancer patients.
Noted Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr Rachit Matur highlighted the various causal factors of oral cancer and how easily the various carcinogens like areca nut, tobacco, flavoured hukkah, vape are accessible to young generation and the steps needed to keep them away from such habits.
Mr Rajeev Khanna (Business Associate, North Zone Gelnova Laboratatories India Pvt Ltd) enumerated the various benefits of Curcumin, one of the chief anti-carcinogenic components of turmeric.
More than 185 faculty members and undergraduate and postgraduate students from JNMC and ZADC attended the programme.
The Organizing Secretary, Prof Dr Anshul Agarwal, faculty members Dr Kauser J Khwaja, Dr Nasir Salathi, Dr Masood Hasan Khan, Dr Shahla Khan and junior residents played a key role in the organization of the programme.
The winners of various competitive events held over the last month were given prizes.
Dr Sidra Aslam, JR-1 conducted the programme while Dr Juhi Gupta extended a vote of thanks.
