Cornell University: The Administrative Management Institute Returns to Cornell this Summer
The Administrative Management Institute (AMI), one of the country’s top professional development opportunities in higher education, will be back on campus this summer after a two-year hiatus.
The 30-year-old program brings together college and university administrators, business managers, directors, and department heads from universities around the country for an intensive four-day seminar cosponsored by Cornell’s School of Continuing Education (SCE) and the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers (EACUBO).
AMI, which takes place August 8 to 11, 2022, will feature presentations, panel discussions and workshops designed to help higher education professionals enhance their effectiveness within their institutions. This year, participants will explore timely topics such as data-informed decision-making, leadership skills for a hybrid workforce and understanding unconscious bias during the hiring process.
“We launched AMI 30 years ago to help business officers and managers in higher education gain practical knowledge, develop their leadership skills and build their networks,” said Charles W. Jermy, Jr., interim dean for SCE. “Over the years, participants have used this intensive learning experience to successfully launch careers, change careers or advance careers. This year, AMI sessions comprise a wide range of critical topics, including an in-depth training on ‘The Art and Science of Leadership in a Hybrid Environment,’ led by Ken and Scott Blanchard.”
For the past eight years, AMI has been led by Paul Streeter, AMI’s program director and vice president emeritus for budget and planning at Cornell. Streeter said he’s looking forward to AMI’s return to campus. “We are excited to run AMI this year after a two-year hiatus due to COVID,” he said. “AMI has always strived to provide professional development that’s practical and readily useful while also focusing on topics that are beneficial for long-term growth and development. This year’s AMI program has been developed with a focus on management and leadership skills we think are particularly relevant to today’s evolving work environment.”
This year’s presenters will include SC Johnson College of Business faculty, senior human resources personnel and other higher education professionals from around Cornell.
Past participant Kaitlin Lutz of Princeton University said of her AMI experience, “The breadth of the content was relevant to my daily job functions. The presenters were engaging and funny, making it well worth the time spent in the sessions.” And, she continued, “the program’s attendees made for numerous opportunities for personal connections and sharing of expertise.”
The early-registration program charge is $2,137 through June 1. After that date, the program charge is $2,250. EACUBO members may receive a discount through June 1. Participants will earn a Cornell Certificate of Completion and will be eligible for 2.63 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or 2.5 Continuing Professional Education credits (CPEs).
