Cranlana Centre for Ethical Leadership announces new Chair
Monash University and the Myer Foundation are pleased to announce the appointment of Gail Hambly as the new Chair of Cranlana Centre for Ethical Leadership (Cranlana Centre).
Ms Hambly has over 25 years’ experience as a senior executive, serving as Group General Counsel and Company Secretary of Fairfax Media Limited from 1992 to 2019, with responsibility for legal services, government and corporate relations, ASX compliance, internal audit and risk.
Ms Hambly was deeply involved in the growth and development of Fairfax Digital businesses including Domain, Stan Entertainment Ltd and Stayz Ltd. She is a member of the Media and Communications and Privacy Law Committees of the Law Council of Australia.
Ms Hambly will assume the role from outgoing Cranlana Centre Chair, Kim Williams AM.
On Ms Hambly’s appointment, President of the Myer Foundation, Martyn Myer AO said, “We’re delighted, after an extensive search, to welcome Gail Hambly as the Chair of Cranlana Centre.
“Kim Williams was always going to be difficult to replace, and I extend my thanks to him for his time as Chair. Kim oversaw a number of key developments in Cranlana’s evolution, including the two major partnerships formed in 2019.
“We know that Gail will continue to strengthen these partnerships between the Myer Foundation, Vincent Fairfax Ethics in Leadership Foundation, and Monash University.”
Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC welcomed Ms Hambly’s appointment as the new Cranlana Centre Chair.

On her appointment as Cranlana Centre Chair, Ms Hambly said, “I am honoured and excited to have the opportunity to lead the Cranlana Board. The COVID-19 global pandemic has shown us all how important wise, strong and ethical leadership is. There will be many lessons to learn from our experiences and Cranlana Centre programmes are built to equip present and future leaders to develop their personal and professional skills and insights to the benefit of their organisations and society generally.
