Cultural Unit Kashmir of DIPR organises grand function to celebrate “Youm-e-Ustaad Mohammad Sultan Bhat”

 

SRINAGAR : The Cultural Unit Srinagar DIPR today organised a grand function to commemorate “Youm e Ustaad Mohammad Sultan Bhat” a saintly sufi poet and legendary folk singer, whose mausoleum is situated at Chattabal area of Srinagar.

The Cultural Unit organised the function in collaboration with JKAACL, Ustaad Mohammad Sultan Bhat memorial and folk music society.

On the occasion, devotees, Sufi music lovers and literary personalities gathered at his mausoleum to celebrate the day.

Renowned folk singers of Kashmir presented Sufi Kalaam of Ustaad Mohammad Sultan Bhat and other folk songs. Rashid Hafiz, Mohammad Abdullah Shaksaz, Ama Kachroo, Gulzar Ganai, Gulzar Mir, Farooq Ganai, Gaffar Kanihami, Rafeeq Dar and the Artists from cultural unit of the Department of Information and public relations, Gh Mohammad Bhat, G M Kanday, Faroze Ahmad shah mesmerized the audience by their melodious folk songs.

A large gathering of people witnessed the day long programme and acclaimed the organising departments for preserving and promoting the traditional folklore of Kashmir.

Later, president UMSMC G N Matta, Vice president Fayaz Ahmad Warsi and president GG Folk Music Society Gulzar Ganai presented mementos and lifetime achievement awards in memory of sufi music legends, late Gh Ahmad Sofi, late Gh Hassan Sofi, Late Gh Mohammad Shaikh, Ustaad Mohammad Abdullah Tarbali, Late Gh Mohammad Kawa and others.
