CUO inaugurates the National Conference on “Mathematics in the 21st Century: Theory and Applications”
Today, on 26 April 2024, the Central University of Odisha commenced a significant event, a Two-Day National Conference on “Mathematics in the 21st Century: Theory and Applications.” Organized by the Department of Mathematics, this inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of eminent figures from across the country.
Among the distinguished attendees were Acting Registrar of the University, Prof. Narsingha Charan Panda, and notable mathematicians such as Prof. Mukuta Mani Tripathy from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Prof. Avanish Kumar from Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, Prof. J. K. Prajapat from Central University of Rajasthan, Kishangarh, Prof. A. K. Mishra, Former Director of Institute of Mathematics & Applications, Bhubaneswar, Prof. Bhawani Sankar Panda from IIT Delhi, Prof. Prasanta Chatterjee from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj (RTM) Nagpur University, Prof. G. S. Khadekar from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj (RTM) Nagpur University, and Dr. Ashok Kumar Sahoo, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Mathematics at CUO, who also served as the Chairman of the Conference.
In a message sent for the occasion, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chakradhar Tripathi emphasized the present time as India’s opportunity to lead globally, stressing the values of hard work and truthfulness. He likened the eternal nature of mathematics to life and death, drawing inspiration from historical figures like Mahamahopadhyaya Chandrasekhar Singha Harichandan Mahapatra Samanta, also known as the Patthani Samanta.
Prof. Narsingha Charan Panda highlighted the rich mathematical heritage found in the Vedas, asserting its capacity to guide modern applied mathematics and its integral role in Indian education. Chief Speaker Professor Mukut Mani Tripathi underscored the importance of determination and hard work in shaping students’ lives, emphasizing mathematics as a guiding spirit across various disciplines.
Guest of honor Prof. Avanish Kumar expressed satisfaction with recent developments in mathematics, stressing the importance of research and fundamental ideas. Special Guest, former Prof. A. K. Mishra, reflected on the nature of success, urging practical realization over mere dreaming. He envisioned the university, under the vision of Prof. Chakradhar Tripathi, becoming a prominent center of mathematics.
The chairman of the conference, Dr. Ashok Kumar Sahoo, outlined the conference theme and extended a warm welcome to all participants. Convener Dr. Jyotiska Dutta and, Co-convener Suvam Padhi and organizing Secretary Dr. Sarbeswar Barik expressed gratitude to attendees. They provided an overview of the conference sessions, encouraging active participation and inspiring presentations.
The conference promises to be a fruitful exchange of ideas and insights, shedding light on the evolving role of mathematics in shaping the contemporary world.
