CUO organises National Seminar on Role of Statistics in Emerging India @2047: A Multidisciplinary Approach

In a bid to delve into the pivotal role of statistics in India’s evolving landscape, the Department of Statistics, CUO organized a one-day national seminar titled “Role of Statistics in Emerging India @2047: A Multidisciplinary Approach.” Held on March 18, 2024, at the Central University of Odisha, Koraput, the event saw esteemed dignitaries and scholars congregating to explore the subject.

The inauguration and presiding over the program were undertaken by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Chakradhar Tripathi. Adding to the gravitas of the occasion, Professor N.C. Panda, Registrar I/c., graced the event as the Chief Guest. Notable figures sharing insights from the dais included Prof. S.B. Bagchi, former Professor at Burdwan University, Kolkata; Dr. Tapati Bagchi, former Head of Ashutosh College, Kolkata; Prof. Tirupathi Rao Padi from Pondicherry University; Prof. Ranjita Pandey from the University of Delhi, and Prof. Priyaranjan Dash from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.

Prof. Tripathi emphasized the significance of statistics within the Indian knowledge framework, urging the department to contribute to Indian aesthetics. Prof. Panda shed light on the Indian statistical system, while Prof. Bagchi provided a comprehensive overview of the history and educational aspects of statistics in India. Prof. Padi underscored the diverse applications and importance of statistics across various fields, while Prof. Pandey eloquently elucidated the concepts of statistics and probability.

Prof. Priyaranjan Dash delved into the historical trajectory of statistics in India, spanning from pre-independence to the contemporary era, and underscored its role in shaping the nation’s emergence. Dr. Gurjit Singh Walia, Head of the Department of Statistics, extended a warm welcome to faculty members, scholars, and students who graced the event with their presence, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and insights.
